Sometimes the graphics card of windows 8 or 10 gets disabled then changed to Intel’s default graphics. So, use an external monitor and check the driver if it needs an update.
Laptop display not working but external monitor works, why?
The monitor shows the windows logo while boots. The motherboard displays to the second monitor at the time of booting. After completely loading the operating system the computer switches the external monitor and allows the user to use both displays.
Laptop screen not working but external monitor does – solution
Follow the process below to get back the laptop screen.
Method 1: If the laptop enters into the windows and appears windows logo in the monitor screen, which means your BIOS is absolutely fine. Also, nothing wrong related to it. Try the bellows –
- Remove the laptop battery.
- Unplug the power supply.
- Press and hold the laptop power button for at least 30 seconds so that the laptop can release static power.
- Plugin the power cord.
- Turn on the laptop.
Hope, it will bring back the laptop screen. If not work, try method 2.
Method 2:
- Reinstall the battery.
- Turn on the laptop and keep it on until you finish the charge.
- Press and hold the power button again for 30 seconds.
- Wait a few seconds.
- Plug the power supply and power up the laptop.
Method 3:
Right-click on the start button of the computer and click on the Device Manager. Then, again right on the Display Driver. Click on Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 (in my laptop) and select Disable Device. This will restore the function again to your laptop screen.
Method 4:
- Power off your laptop.
- Connect the laptop (output) and the monitor (input) using a VGA cable.
- Turn on the laptop.
These steps help the bios to recognize the monitor as the main display and allows to continue the work after completely loaded the operating system.
